PADMAVAT- REALITY OR MYTH
In recent days there is a controversy going on the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s another historic flick “PADMAVAT”. Initially it was named as PADMAVATI which was changed after the rise of the controversy. The story revolves around a beautiful Queen named as Rani Padmini of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan in 13th and 14th century. A group of people of Rajasthan known as “KARNI SENA” has risen up the heat about releasing of the movie “PADMAVAT”, and demanded to do some alterations in the movie including its name which was initially named as “PADMAVATI”. If it was not done they have threatened to take some harsh actions against Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his team. As public don’t know the valid reason behind the controversy some are saying that might be it is being done for the publicity of the movie or Karni Sena is doing so for the fame. The only reason Karni Sena is giving that the story of this movie is disgracing the character of Rani Padmini. But our history says a different story about the Rani Padmini. According to our historical records Rani Padmini is a fictionalised character. The earliest source to mention the queen is of a literary work of Malik Muhammad Jayasi an Awadhi poet, and the most interesting thing is that the earlier accounts that describe Alauddin Khalji’s conquest of Chittorgarh make no mention of this queen. So, on what basis the Karni Sena is criticising the movie and its story? Have they seen it?
